Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All easily passable
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Plenty of blowdowns on the Cedar Brook Trail but almost all are on the ground, not big and easy "stepovers".
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Cinnilla nailed this 24.6 miles round trip - her longest yet. It is an excellent hike for the K9s. A relatively easy trail, almost all in the shade and plenty of water. But after crossing the brook at the beginning of the Hancock Loop trail there is no water on the loop.
Bugs
Bugs: They were out on this muggy day but not really a problem. There are a few less now because of the ones I swallowed. Nutritious value? Not great! Cobwebs a minor irritation - especially on the Cedar Brook

Comments
Comments: The Pine Island Trail is now open. It is very nice - great work by the trail crews. I recommend it over the - relatively boring - Pemi East Side trail.

The Cedar Brook trail is very nice and in much better shape than I expected. I anticipated problems with following the trail but it is easy. There are some very slippery rock-sections But with due attention they should not be a problem.

There are several mud sections - worst between the 2 Hancock peaks where there is one large section - but they should be manageable.
