Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: crossing of the swift river was up a bit. took off boots and waded in the morning, but just kept them on in the afternoon as i was already soaked. possible rock hop just downstream, but it seemed safer to just wade it.

Comments
Comments: sawyer river trail wet to ski trail junction. ski trail pretty wet, muddy and overgrown as is to be expected. walked to the now washed out bridge where the ski trail crosses the swift river then doubled back a short distance and left the trail.

headed roughly northwest aiming at the summit ridge east of the highpoint. woods were very wet and mostly moderate with thick sections mixed in. crossed some old woods roads along the way. around 2700 i hit a thick band of young spruce/fir and blowdown which slowed things down quite a bit then a real steep, rocky and thick ascent dropped me near the ridge roughly where i was hoping. the ridge had moderate to thick woods and the recognized high point was clear and is well to the west end of the summit ridge. from the summit i took a rough bearing back towards my starting point and side sloped down hitting much nicer woods than on the upper part of the ascent. down low i scrapped the bearing, dropped down to the swift river and followed its banks back to the ski trail.

not the best day to head off trail, but i have been looking at this one everytime i drive the kanc for a while now so i stuck with my original plan. i was quickly soaked from the woods so when the rain started falling hard on the descent it didn't really matter. some interesting walking along the swift on the way out with a combination of irene wash in the woods and historical (and modern) junk along the way. had another shorter bushwack lined up for the afternoon, but that one will wait for another day. great to be out.
