Comments
Comments: Plan B after cancelled Presi hike. Off to The Evans Notch area under mixed skies. The Basin area always spectacular..what a terrific place. Basin Trail from the parking lot in good shape though skirts several areas of Irene damage. Lovely woods walk to a very steep climb to ridge on well engineered path under over and around some excellent ledge. Side path to falls there well worth the trip.

Rim Trail has a mixture of scrambly ledges and gorgeous trail bed. This area has seen some recent work as the corridor is well brushed out just bout everywhere. A few ledgy spots to West Royce but this fine open summit did offer some decent views to the valley and the threatening clouds on the horizon.

Trail over towards East Royce completely reconstructed and in great shape..this used to be a terrible mud pit. Impending storm had us skip East Royce and its fine views for another day., initial decent on Royce very rough and slippery but eventually the trail smooths out and offers great footing. Very scenic section with great ledges, numerous waterfalls,an extensive gorge section and a fine built trail, we really enjoyed this.

Oh except for the 45 minutes of absolute downpour.. no wind or lightning but it sure did rain. Numerous water crossings on the lower route here. This is a fine destination in its own right to the numerous pools and cascades there. Poured rain on the short road walk we had but cleared off as we arrived back to the Basin for a quick dip and refreshment. Thanks Becca for a cool day in the woods
