Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked diagonally across route 302 from the Mt Tremont trailhead where the vehicle can be pulled off the roadside better than at the trailhead itself.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The bridge over the Sawyer River at the end of the Sawyer Pond Trail has been closed by the Forest Service due to a compromised abutment that supports the end of the bridge by the road. I elected to cross on rocks with two slightly under water. No real difficulty today. All other crossings were either bridged or were minor brooks.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trails were in good condition. There were fallen trees on the trails but they were easily stepped over or duck under. I was pleasantly surprised that the little used Brunel Trail was so well maintained.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Good trails for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Many spider webs on Mt Tremont and Brunel Trails otherwise only a few flies and mosquitoes.

Comments
Comments: Nice loop hike where the higher elevation walk was completed before the afternoon thunderstorms were forecast. Sign about the July 1963 lightning induced forest fire is near Owl's Cliff outlook.

On Sawyer River Road I noticed the Signal Ridge trail has been relocated to the old bushwhacking route which avoids the first crossing of Whiteface Brook. There was also a notice that the Mt Carrigain observation platform is being overhauled until Sept 3rd. Sawyer River Road looks okay.

I saw a water bird in Sawyer Pond (possibly a Grebe).

Did not see anyone else on Mt Tremont or Brunel Trails. The Brunel Trail is signed as it enters and leaves Rob Brook Road.
