|
| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the Basin Trail trailhead next to the pond, then jogged to the Royce Trail trailhead. The .3 miles on 113 is sort of awkward for foot traffic, as it's barely wide enough for vehicles. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
River crossings on Royce Trail were generally easily hopped at present low water (some slippery rocks). Basin Trail crossings also hopped (one bridged as well). |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A couple of blowdowns maybe a mile in on the Royce Trail. A whole bunch of large, old blowdowns on the Basin Trail. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Very little water, except for the lower mile or so of each trail. |
|
| Bugs: |
Mosquitoes down low, otherwise minimal. |

| Comments: |
Royce Trail was fairly smooth sailing until near the Laughing Lion Trail junction. Rough from there up to the Connector, then relatively smooth again (some nice quasi-recent Level 2 trail work) until the Burnt Mill Brook junction.
Basin Rim Trail was rugged in places, but there were some nice views along the way. Basin Trail was quite rugged above the falls spur. Steep, eroded, and loaded with old, large blowdowns to climb over.
First time to the Basin area - very neat! |
