Trails
Trails: Daniel Doan Trail, J Trail, Kodak Trail, Cross Rivendell Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, September 15, 2012
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: For the Cross Rivendell trailhead, there are a couple of pull-overs for one or two vehicles on the west side of Baker Rd., just north of the trailhead, but also a substantial lot, with no signs, 50 yards further north, which seems to be for X Rivendell hikers. Parking for D. Doan Trail per AMC Guide.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The only crossing worth mentioning would have been Jacobs Brook, just before the J joins the Kodak Trail (both AT), but there is a nice new (at least since the AMC 28th Ed.) bridge over it.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Daniel Doan Trail far better than we expected. Trail maintenance efforts over the past year of which I've read, the dryness of the season, or both? The Cross Rivendell Trail west from the Mt. Cube summit, has been very nicely laid out and maintained, through attractive forests.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Delilah enjoyed herself thoroughly, it seemed.
Bugs
Bugs: None, except the occasional spider.

Comments
Comments: A wonderful 12.25 traverse over varied terrain to two 52 WAV peaks that deserve their spots on that list. The Smarts Mtn Fire Tower, devoid of electronics and with an enclosed cab open to the public, is a must. I gather we were fortunate to have the Cube Mtn. summit ledges to ourselves on a pleasant afternoon.
