Comments
Comments: Sorry I can't provide many details about the trails, because we went there for pond canoeing and swimming. The trails we saw appeared to be well maintained and clearly blazed with color coding, through beautiful forest and along three ponds. As for the canoeing, we started at Bigelow Pond near the entrance. It was especially scenic and we saw a beaver up close; it didn't take long to go around the whole pond. Then we drove the canoe up to the biggest pond, Mashapaug pond. The south end of the pond is in the state park, and the rest of the land around the pond and all of the islands are private property with no trespassing. It's good for canoeing and swimming, with some good swimming rocks. Motorboats have a 10 mph speed limit and lots of people were fishing and picnicking, but well spread out. We didn't go to Breakneck Pond, because we would have had to portage a mile throught the woods each way. The day use fee on weekends is $10 for CT residents and $15 for others. The trails are open for XC skiing in the winter.
