Here is a map: http://www.tiverton.ri.gov/government/forms%20and%20notices/10_08_WWandPGmap.pdf. There is some interesting history in this park which is worth googling. The best known feature is an old sawmill site with a keystone arch bridge. There are also cellar holes at old farm sites, which still have perennial flowers blooming from way back when, and an old well or two. Two rock outcrops are High Rock (on a short side trail, unmarked, fun to climb) and Catamount Rock (no longer on an official trail). If you see a lot of downed trees in some spots, it's because the area has been hit hard by the hemlock wooly adelgid (an insect pest). I hiked about 3 miles today after work; you can make up a longer or shorter version. If you don't know the area, a map and compass are a good idea. There are unmarked trails and roads to confuse things. Blazes are colored metal discs, far apart on the yellow trail. |
