We followed the route listed in the Day hiker's Guide to VT to the col. Just stay on the main trail. We did not see any cairns on our route, although they are mentioned in the Day Hiker's guide. After taking a left in the col, we took the second road on the right. This road petered out into a seldomly used trail. We were able to follow this faint path, which led directly to the old signpost between the South and North peaks. We spent less than 5 minutes on this faint section, it shouldn't be an issue to follow for anyone. 2 hours up, 1 1/2 hours down.
