Trails: USFS 59, Skylight Pond Trail & Long Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, January 26, 2014
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: USFS 59 had so little snow I believe it could have been driven to the Skylight Pond trail. Signs indicated it was closed except for skiing and snowmobiling so I did the morally right thing and parked in the Burnt Hill trail parking lot and did 5 mile round trip road walk (though on the way back I really wished I'd driven it)

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The blazing on both of these trails is pretty bad, given they are both in the Breadloaf Wilderness. Skylight Pond was slightly better-at least the blazes are blue. The LT is terrible-don't expect to navigate by the blazes.

Comments
Comments: -6 at the start but no wind. The route had been traveled by a small group staying at Skylight Pond the day before so I had no worries about route finding to the L.T. They had packed out early heading south so I was breaking trail to Breadloaf, which despite the lack of blazes was a breeze due to the lack of snow. There was a little drifting as I neared Breadloaf. The L.T. heading north did not look inviting. I used snowshoes for traction once on the trails but it was a little bony in places. It was nice to finally hike on a sunny day this winter.
