Some people will say he has been here before and the answer is yes. Quickly becoming my rehab hike. This time after two weeks of pneumonia. Had a great February and drove myself into the ground. Thought about that and future hikes on the way up and down.
Started relatively late about 10am. Had breakfast with my wife. Got my work caught up and drove over. Nice not to have to drive 2-3 hours to get to whites or daks.
Conditions were great--packed powder by snowshoer's and skiers. Lot had room when I left but by the time I got back about 1:15 the lot was pretty much full. Met a young man from QC who was doing a 111 oh to be young and foolish and hiked in the whites quite a bit.
He said go ahead and I never looked back.. kind of retentive that way give me an open trail and I'm gone. Passed a group of 5 people on skis and then two more. When I passed the last two conditions were to soft and had to put on snow shoes and then catch back up. Finally caught the last two hikers on snow shoes and started to break trail which varied from 2-4.
Winds were whipping on top donned my facemask and mitts at the open spot below the summit. Summited out and headed down meeting many more folks headed up. Nice day but still wind chills were quite high, not for the faint of heart. Good to be back out!!!!! |
