I decided to try to bag both Pico and Killington. I assumed that the Sherburne and AT would be passable and my guess was right! The trail was a side walk with little to no loose snow early in the day. Started in micro spikes but could have easily use crampons from the car. Needed the crampons starting at the ski slope crossing halfway up Sherburne. They were essential for the summit spur trails, especially Killington. Butt sledding down was an adventure!
On the way down the snow had softened up some but still little to no real postholing. I left the snow shoes on the pack as they would have be a headache while crossing the icy areas.
Beautiful day for a long hike. I could easily see Mansfield to the north and Mount Marcy in the 'dacks! |
