Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, February 6, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty at the end of the maintained section of Stratton Arlington Rd. The last few miles of it, though, isn't plowed too well and may require care.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Some were deceiving and tricky- I tripped and fell while crossing a minor one, and the one major crossing was wide and possibly poorly bridged.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few hanging branches, otherwise in good shape.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I'd strongly advise against bringing any dog here right now due to the sheer thickness of the snow.

Comments
Comments: Turned back at about 1.4 miles (after the crossing of FR 341) when I encountered 1 to 2 ft. deep snow almost everywhere. I still had about 1,300 feet of gain left, and to top it off, I was solo, so I threw in the towel.

Next time I hike any trail in unpacked snow this deep, I'm bringing a crew with me!
