Comments
Comments: Headed northwest to avoid the rain. Trails were wet from the recent rain, but were drying out as the day passed. Long Trail from 242 had some slippery ledges on the upper half - I descended via the ski trail and cut over trail to avoid them on the way back. From Jay Peak, continued down the Long Trail (on a ski trail) to the orange fence, where the LT sneaks into the woods. There is a wordy, old ski area boundary sign just in the woods - don't bother going up to it - stay on the LT for a few dozen feet, then the obvious herd path starts left. Herd path was very easy to follow to Big Jay, though there were a few blowdowns to make things annoying. Most annoying, though, were the numerous deep mud patches - nasty.
