Just to chime in on the overall conditions I've seen in other reports. I used dull Katoohla Micros for entire hike. If I had gone again on Thursday the best set up in my opinion would've been snowshoes up to the jct. where the Catamount Trail departs. Lots of solidly frozen 3-5" holes where micros were a challenge keeping ankles straight; Hillsound trail pros or crampons would've been even more of a challenge and snowshoes would've kept me level even though there is only 1-2" snow. From that jct. on up I would've used sharp micros at a minimum. Trail much smoother so rolling ankles not as much of a concern from here on up. Some hidden ice in middle areas; the tower section (where I used a bypass) my Hillsounds or crampons would be helpful. I still probably would've bypassed on my way down. Stay safe wherever you go my friends! |
