Perfectly packed snow on Laura Cowles. Trail was easy to identify until exposed top - but you could see some traction marks from previous hikers. Last 3/4 miles of Laura Cowles there were some tricky icy bits. Saw 3 young hikers coming down the trail. Good views on summit and very windy, but not overly cold. Descending we saw one gentleman hiker who informed Sunset Ridge was very windy. Coming down Sunset Ridge, again nicely packed snow in most areas with identifiable trail all the way. Indeed, very windy on exposed Ridge with some wild gusts (had to hold tight onto trekking poles). A really lovely hike. Recommend light traction. |
