Comments
Comments: Though it feels like April for this area, there is 1-3 feet of snow pack.
Long Trail to the ski area was generally snow covered, though a few waterbars had opened up down low. Snowshoes were ideal, especially for bushwhacking in open woods around those seeps. Unfortunately, a lot of the trail has been beat up by bare booters.
At the ski trail crossing, I opted to stay on the ski trails up to the top of the tram, as the ledgy section of the Long Trail looked like it had a lot of blue ice.
In descending from the summit, the ski headed in the direction of Long Trail north is closed and is generally either blue ice or bare grass.
The herd path from the Long Trail to the summit of Big Jay was excellent - a firm snowshoe track all the way with no postholes. Good views, thanks to the snowpack.
