Comments
Comments: The Burrows trail is in rough shape. Above 2,500' the trail basically goes at NEI 1. The trail was passable with microspikes, but if I could do it again, I would have taken my 10-point crampons. The ice was hard and covered by running water in many spots, which made it extra slick. The runnout in a number of spots was severe. The real obstacle was the Long Trail South. There were two icy chutes that were steep and exposed. We witnessed two parties turn back after a few unsuccessful attempts at both bypassing and ascending them. All-in-all though a wonderful day out. We saw only 10, 12 other hikers, and the weather on the summit held for a nice view. The winds were building throughout the day before the front came through.
