Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Radar Road is a logging road (heavy equipment signage at south end) and is gated about a half mile before mile marker 5. I parked just before the closed gate (which is not at the base station area). When I was leaving, I got confused at one of the intersections and ended up in a gravel yard - the main road (Radar Road) is not entirely obvious as multiple branches of logging roads have all been relatively recently improved.

Bugs
Bugs: terrible horse- or deer-flies - not sure which. Some areas I just kept swatting - I didn't use bug stuff because why bother!!!!

Comments: Excellent Cold War Airforce Radar station!!!! Much thanks to rocket21 for his excellent directions:

Ironically, there is no cell signal in the entire area of Radar Rd!!!!! But, I did get a signal for GPS :)

Unfortunately, the (Radar) road is no longer open to the base station. The closed gate is at about 1700' which is about 2 miles south of the base station area. From where I left my car, I went to the base station, then to the summit station area, then to the old wind gauging station. Total RT mileage including poking around was 9.1 miles. Easy walking on the old road; easy jogging the descent. Road is growing in and has an aggressive spruce grouse (?) about halfway up. Fun to poke around in the structures.

In the future, the lower gate may be closed or open, depending on the logging company and moose hunting season. I didn't see much sign of moose however!!!!

Unfortunately, lots of ugly graffiti in the old buildings. I only climbed one staircase partway - too many parts missing!!!

Very neat area!!!!
