Comments
Comments: Steep hike from the get go on Hellbrook Trail with full-body workout. Fun scrambles on dry as well as wet roots and rocks as well as some slime-covered rock slabs - got generally good traction, though, all the way. Couple of lovely waterfalls. We saw a baby ermine who was very curious of us and played peak-a-boo for a while. Gorgeous vistas on the way, especially from just before Hellbrook Cutoff junction to the top of Hellbrook Trail. Saw Elephant's Head and Sterling Pond, as well as Madonna, Whiteface and Morse mountains. Lots of white turtlehead flowers in glorious bloom, and loud buzzing of insects about. Great view of the Chin and we could see a hiker climbing up. We decided to skip the Adam's Apple trail and take the LT south to Chin. Rocks were dry; some high scrambling with dizzying views. Over a dozen people on the Chin. Said "Hi" to the caretaker, and a fellow hiker we regularly see, year-round. Came down the sheltered and steep Profanity Trail, which was quite most of the way before we hit some wet slabs. Took the generally dry - but with some wet, even slippery areas - Long Trail north down to the parking area; saw more happy hikers come up the trail with one dog. Lovely day for a hike.
