Comments
Comments: This was a very strange hike. There was a trail run (25k and 50k!) going on on much of theJay Peak section of the Long Trail, so on my way up I had to keep getting out of the way for "runners"- who were often walking, as this trail's footing often doesn't lend itself to running. I also met a few thru hikers.

Once I got to the summit of Jay Peak, there were a lot of people there- and an aid station for the runners- as it was a lovely day and a holiday.

The herd path up Big Jay was easy to find, though I did get off it once going up. There are places where there are large swampy sections that are hard to avoid and a couple of ledge scrambles. Between that and the grown over trail, I came back with muddy, soaked boots and lots of scratches. The register is in a jar in plain sight at the summit of Big Jay, right under the summit sign. There is also that strange rescue sled or whatever it is up there. There were actually 3 other people doing Big Jay. #85 of the 100 for me.
