||Logging roads, herd path, bushwhack |
|Date of Hike:
||Saturday, June 2, 2018|
|Parking/Access Road Notes:
||Logging in progress along Wheelerville Rd, possibly just on weekdays. Wheelerville Rd is in excellent condition.
Bucklin Trailhead parking lot had two cars at 8:30am, was full when we returned at 1pm. People were starting to park along the road. |
||Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant |
|Water Crossing Notes:
|Trail Maintenance Notes:
||So many black flies at the summit! Bug net hats came in handy. |
|Lost and Found:
||It was relatively easy to follow logging roads - including the "high road" - and herd paths to Mendon Peak. We lost the herd path almost immediately on the way down, bushwhacked back to the logging road instead. There was a decent patch of boot-sucking mud where the "high road" rejoins the "low road" between stream crossings #2 and #3, so we went "high" on the way back as well to avoid mud and the extra stream crossings on the "low road".|
We ate lunch in our car after the hike to avoid the flies. Saw a ruby-throated hummingbird feeding on flowers by Bucklin trailhead!
