As we were about to start the ascent up to Camel's Hump via the Burrows Trail, two hikers came off the trail in just boots. They told us the snow on the trail was packed so they didn't need snowshoes or even microspikes. We decided to wear microspikes in the snow anyway. The trail was definitely firmly packed and there was no postholing. We met a few groups of hikers making their way down, and most of them wore microspikes and a few wore snowshoes. It was a beautiful hike with snow covering everything in sight. The views from the summit were stunning, but we didn't stay long due to the strong winds. We ran most of the way down to the parking lot. We met our challenge to get back (4:30pm) before needing headlamps. |
