Comments
Comments: Pulled into the lot at the same time as Drew Peterson, who knows this mountain like the back of his hand! We headed up the Long Trail, which was generally spring snow granular conditions, though there was some wet/sticky powder higher up. Trail is fairly well broken out for snowshoe use up to the cabin - lots of ski tracks all over, so trail can be hard to follow kosher. Angled to the Profanity Trail above cabin. Gully high up on it was potentially dangerous - we stayed to the left, as the middle was unconsolidated potentially at risk of sliding. Opted not to descend this without an ice axe just in case, as crampons and/or snowshoes likely would have lost traction quickly on a descent. Headed over to the Chin, then followed the Long Trail south - exposed ledge beyond Sunset Ridge Trail for awhile, but then deep snow as it dropped back into the scrub. Some may want Micros for the ledgy area, but snowshoes a must thereafter. Headed around Long Trail/work road, then up to the Nose, then a short bushwhack through open woods to the top of the old Nose Drive ski trail, then headed down current Nose Dive ski trail (no sign of the hiking trail that departs from it, so we stuck to the ski trail...probably not the best way down). I believe this peak closes to hikers in a few days, until mid May. Aside for ledge above treeline, still multiple feet of snow top to bottom.
