| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Arrived at the gravel pit and the gate was open and there was a man in a pick-up truck inside and I went up and asked about the trail and I asked for permission to park. He told me where to park and we said thank you. I guess we lucked out because we were unaware that the gate has been locked & posted. |

After posting on Facebook we learned that others have not been as lucky as we were because we were granted permission to park in the gravel pit. I imagine it was Sunday and no one was working and the gate was open. I don't know how one would know they weren't welcome if the gate is open? Heading up the old road blocked by boulders in the left hand side (southwest corner) walk a ways up looking on the left side and when we walked into an open field we realized we must have walked past the trail. We backtracked and saw that maybe a few people had scampered up a eight foot high gravel bank (did they take a loader and try to hide the trail?, well we were told Dr. Katz the eye doctor hikes the mountain every day). Trail well blazed and maintained. Too bad for us it was a misty cloudy day. The fire tower is tall and sturdy but has no windows and lots of graffiti. We'd sure like to return to this peak to see the view from the tower. I hope the parking isn't an issue for long. |
