| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
a number of blowdowns - 2 on sunset ridge that you can duck under, one duckunder on on long trail after the forehead, a duckunder on the Wallace cutoff, a walk around on the rock garden and one step over on the CCC Road. There is also one broken bog bridge on long trail before the visitor center |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Most of this hike would work for dogs, lots of water today even along the ridges but on drier days there would be a long stretch without water. Would not recommend the long trail south of the forehead for canines - there are some ledges and ladders that might prove dificult |
|
| Bugs: |
The weather today - cold early and strong winds on the ridgeline kept them at bay most of the day - saw a few later in the day on the hike out along the CCC road but they weren't biting. |

| Comments: |
A great hike - started under cloudy skies which cleared to nice sunny skies and great viws. A bit cold to start and there were strong winds on the ridgeline so extra layer were needed until the late afternoon. Lots of people out on the Chin but only a few beyond on the ridgeline.
There was running water and patches of mud on most of the trails today. Some running water and mud on sunset ridge trail below treline, Ledges up to the the Chin were dry but with a few spots of running water.
Long Trail along ridgeline - ledges were dry but there were a few spots of mud in the trees. Long trail south of the forehead was interesting - some fun and challenging ledge scrambles and ladders.
Rock Garden trail has a lot of mud, there was one ledge in the boulders on the trail that was wet and slimy - water was dripping down the cliffs on the the ledge making it very slick heading down.
Maple Spring trail - once below the ledges the trail is worn down to bare rock which this day had a lot of running water and leaves and other debris making footing slick so watch your footing. |
