Comments
Comments: I parked by the Barnes Camp Visitor Center and then walked up the closed road until the Long Trail intersection. I followed two sets of snowshoe tracks from yesterday up to Taft Lodge. From there, I was on my own to navigate to the summit. I broke trail in snow drifts up to my waist up to the Hell Brook trail intersection, and then turned right to head up to the summit. From that intersection up to the summit, the snow was deep and the wind was ridiculous (50-60 MPH). Climbing up the steep rocky sections was treacherous, but I made the summit and was summarily knocked off my feet by the wind. I ended up bushwhacking down from the summit until I intersected with the Profanity trail. However, I wasn't able to keep on trail due to the waist-deep snow, and ended up popping out just south of the Lodge. I struggled over to the lodge and then connected back with my past tracks to descent. It was an intense day, and not one I'd want to repeat.
