Did the LT/Profanity Loop this morning up to the Chin. Wore snowshoes all the way up to eagle pass, then switched to crampons and took out axe. I had been concerned about snow stability on the Profanity Trail (my descent) but the section of the LT from Eagle Pass to the Chin had the sketchier conditions. Lots of thin wind slabs that fractured very easily; not enough to bury you but enough to knock you off your feet and there are a lot of steep cliffs on that section of the trail. Be careful out there for the next few days until things stabilize. Those trails are both 30 degree snow slopes above treeline and an avalanche wouldn’t be unheard of. |
