With 12:30 arrival I lucked out and staff attendant sent me up to spot just opened up. Parking was at least 3/10th's of a mile down road. Another staffer told me parking was a mess today on account of early arrivals not using common sense. Would not have wanted to be going up if someone coming down at same time for there was a quite a long 1-way stretch of road barely wide enough to drive through with small car. Imagine a few cars got nicked by doors opening by the looks of how closely together they were in lot. |

Found a 30 below rated sleeping bag in case on rock in front of my spot. Checked with campers nearby and no luck so brought it over to staff cabin. Hopefully owner will reconnect with it. |

Busy day; GMC caretaker had 615 count at top of Toll Road at around 3:30; caretaker had departed Chin for Taft Lodge by time I got there so my curiosity on summit count wasn't answered. Later start made for quieter hiking. Wet trails down low until breaking into open then mostly dry rock mixed with wet, muddy spots in between. Great views; Whites and ADK's quite clear late in day. Little warm at times. Ran into several happy hikers. Nice Mansfield day and a favorite loop of mine. |
