Water crossings were unfrozen but passable on stepping stones without much trouble. |

The beagle had a hard time with the crusty snow and ice. |

Found a light traction device on the trail and hung it up near the gate at the bottom of the campground road. |

| Comments: |
Party of two, Bald Mountain Trail. 2" of crusty snow and ice, unfrozen water crossings, lightly tracked out. We used spikes and ascended without trouble. There are cleared window views at the top--one pointing toward Monadnock, the other toward Stratton. Pretty hiking up past the cascades and through the hemlock forest. Nice, short holiday-eve hike. |
