| Comments: |
There is very little snow, and what is there is rock hard. I carried snowshoes but they went for a ride. I bare booted the lower portion and put on my crampons when the ascent started. I could have gotten by with spikes but I knew the final section between Cooper Lodge and the summit would be super icy after yesterday’s winter mix froze overnight, and that the crampons would be better suited for the conditions. I was right. While you might be able to do the final 0.1 miles in spikes, I felt far more comfortable with more aggressive traction. They worked well in the rest of the trail as well. |
