Comments
Comments: Well we went out at 4 degrees according to my car temp. It was quite cold out even though both of us have been in colder. We had a ruff start but kept trucking. I had seen that someone had gone on sunset trail on Friday but knew it snowed all day yesterday so we were going to have wind and new snow. We hit the trailhead and there was a monorail underneath at least 6" of fresh snow and there was someone or an animal that post hosted quite a ways which was trying to break our ankles for some time in snowshoes. Once we hit the view point we decided it was too nice of a day to turn around even though our moods seemed otherwise. I was told this trail was very scenic and once we broke treeline, was that something that kept us going. Once we got up on the rocks I felt my soul leave while walking on exposed rocks with my snowshoes but we dipped back into snow so many times it would have been a mess. The snow pockets were a mystery step as well as you didn't know if your snowshoe would go flat or turn a way to make you stumble. Once we made the hard right turn towards the other laura trail, we had some more breaking to do. The wind was something fierce and we had only an inch or so (probably should have both thrown our goggles on there)of our face showing and we headed for the summit. The only prints were post holes from the skiers and snowboarders. We only saw 2 snowboarders coming up on our way down. We hit the summit took a photo and got out of the wind as soon as possible. I had brain freeze from the cold! We retraced our steps as we did not feel like breaking more trail that we have never been on. It was a quick decent and a quick road walk out. It took us quite a while up but just over two hours from the peak to the car which made for a nice way to finish up my ne67 in winter! Dolores only has 1 more peak! Til the next list that has my attention.
