| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at Underhill State Park. Two large lots, plenty of cars but still space available on Wednesday. Probably fills up on weekends.
Drinking water and toilets available. Day use fee is $4 per adult, $2 per child, or parking included if you are camping. |

Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
All bridged. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails are in good condition and easy to follow. Lots of steps of stone and wood, good bridges. Signage is good.
One blowdown early on Sunset Ridge Trail, easy walk under. Sunset Ridge above Cantilever Rock has vegetation encroaching, maybe due for brushing out.
Spur to Cantilever Rock could also use brushing out, and maybe some blazes. It is confusing due to multiple herd paths and ledges. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw a few, seemed happy. Some dogs might have trouble with the rock scrambles. Dogs should be leashed above tree line to protect alpine vegetation. |
|
| Bugs: |
A few mosquitoes. Covered up and used DEET, no bites. Various bugs flying or crawling around summit, annoying but not really a problem. |

This is a beautiful hike. The upper part of Sunset Ridge Trail has great views from open ledges and above tree line. Then a 360 panoramic view from the summit, just wonderful. There is quite a bit of rock scrambling, mostly of the moderate variety, at least when dry. There are some sections that could be difficult if wet. Lots of hikers on the trail and at the summit, on a Wednesday. Must be mobbed on weekends.
Stayed overnight at Underhill State Park. Good location for hiking Mansfield, since several of the trails on the west side are accessible from the park. Wooded location, with lean-tos and tent sites. Most of the camp sites are several hundred feet or more from the parking lot, so you need to carry your stuff in. The park has wheelbarrows you can borrow for this. |
