The hike up the 1.7 mile section of the Long Trail to Jay Peak was easy. Perfect weather and no humidity. There were about 15 people on the summit when we arrived who had taken the tram. We then followed the ski trail down a short distance to the fence where there is a sign and an opening. There is a white painted arrow on the fence. We started down this trail toward Big Jay. After a very short distance, maybe 40 yards, the trail splits. Take the left. This is the bushwhack. The right continues on the Long Trail and it is the wrong trail. The herd path is obvious most of the time, but occasionally it will disappear. We had to backtrack a few times when we lost the path. There is a summit sign and a jar for a canister on the summit. Recommend long pants and long sleeves. Today I look like I was in a fight with a feral cat! |
