Easy hike in with two grandsons and two of our daughters. Took the Stratton Pd trail to the shelter and set up two tents on some nice platforms. Spent the night then hiked up Stratton without packs. Came back to the campsite for a second night, then an easy hike out on the third day. Nice introduction to backpacking.
Very dry conditions. Only a trickle of water at the Stratton Pd water source. The spring just below the summit heading north on the LT was running nicely.
I was very disappointed that the trail that used to run around the pond was completely shut down. I was really looking forward to the many viewing opportunities along the old path. I understand that the trail was eroding into the pond and something had to be done. Just think that the new trail is too far from the shore. But I totally support GMC for their efforts to protect the pond. (The loons were singing.) |
