Hiked north through thick woods, ran into a well packed ski trail that took us to the base of Ide Mountain with a sign and jar. After summitting Ide we descended to South Wheelock Brook, hiked along the brook (too difficult to cross) until we reached a logging road/ski trail that took us over the brook and to the base of Wheelock Mountain. The summit is marked with a sign and the canister was located in an ammunition box that also serves as a geocache site. The box was buried under several inches of snow. This is a marvelous hike, easier than expected, following logging roads. The views from the ledges can't be matched. It was interesting to note that the registers were signed by several fellow NH 500ers who I know from my days of doing the NH 500. |
