Mountain Road was well plowed and in good shape all the way to the winter parking area. Pretty much any car should be able to make it. |

I was the first, and only person out and broke out Laura Cowles trail all the way to the summit. Snowshoes are absolutely necessary - the powder was very deep and totally unbroken - it was getting down the top of my gaiters in places. After the mess of this autumn, there is also the significant amount of ice under the snow still. There are some tricky, icy ledges to navigate on the way up. Once you break treeline and connect with the Long Trail, the going is easier, with heavily packed, wind-blown snow. |
