Comments
Comments: First day that's felt like winter's really here. 2"-4" fresh snow, Monroe trail tracked by 2 parties, Dean Trail untracked and a little drifted past Wind Gap. Good barebooting w/poles. Brought traction just in case, I think it's going to be more needed as the surface underneath freezes more over the next few days.

Summit (3,680') temp 19F @ 1pm, went over to the higher S. Summit (3,688')where the wind was penetrating the trees a bit. East from the outlook the clouds could be seen receding over the Whites, with only Moosilauke really coming into view. Nobody else on the mountain, no tracks up from Forest City trail, and the 2 upbound groups whose tracks I saw on Monroe trail hadn't come down when I left the hill at 3:00. Two days in a row of early season solitude. Ahhhhh....
