Got some fresh snow last night, increasing to about 6" on the upper mtn.
Starting to have a good base for microspikes, put them on 2/3 way to the cabin and on they stayed. Footing is improved by the snow over plentiful ice.. I hiked up to the Adam's Apple (4,060'), where it was very cold and windy, without seeing other tracks but passing Profanity on the way down there was a fresh pair headed up, and I couldn't resist.
Caught up with a father & son and summited the Chin (4,393') with them. Pretty slippery on Profanity, but they managed bareboots and poles- I'd still recommend traction. Low visibility (60-100 feet), wind about 20 m.p.h., summit temp only 5 degrees F at noon. Footway is improving toward winter conditions and temp's are expected to stay low for a few days. Nice Alpine experience today, just a few determined people out climbing the mountain. |
