Comments
Comments: This was a GMC/NEK hike. After parking we headed into the woods, directly opposite the pull-off. Whacked through the woods and within a quarter mile we found the woods road going up the mountain. It was easygoing as this road is once used by campers and hunters. Followed the road until we saw a sawhorse and took another logging road that went directly to the summit. At the summit is the cabin that was once used by the forest service to man the fire tower that has been removed. The cabin is open to hikers. Also located here is another cabin, used as a bunk house and a lean-to, both are rotting and falling in. The summit cone is a short whack from the cabin. There is a limited view to the west. We found the jar, signed in, and returned on the logging roads to our vehicles. On the way down Sue introduced us to mushrooming, picking several on our way, enough for her to have with her dinner that night. This is a must-do for those interested in hiking to a former fire tower sight.
