East Trail from Lewis Pond Overlook
We drove into the Conte Wildlife Refuge from Rt. 105, turning onto Stone Dam Road (The Lewis Pond Rd. from 105 is gated) then traveled a number of other unmarked roads. It would have been beneficial to have a map with the roads on them. After heading along the wrong road, we finally found the Lewis Pond Rd. that leads to the trailhead. The trail is a nice 2.3 mile saunter through beautiful woods. We had many photo ops. At the summit is the ranger cabin that is being renovated, a nice place to have lunch. We then returned to the Lewis Pond Overlook Parking lot and drove out of the refuge via Lewis Pond Rd. to Henshaw Road which took us out to Rt 105 in Island Pond. We also had time to stop at a couple of boardwalks for views of the refuge.
