We parked at the end of Michigan Road and then walked down the snowmobile, steep down to Michigan Brook and followed Pearty Road. Just before the snowmobile bridge over the brook there is a Mine. There were other signs noting blacksmith shop, flume/dam site and the mine along the way at the Brook. We hiked up until we were just a bit west of Telephone Gap East Peak and then began our bushwhack up the ridge aiming for the col just west of the peak. We crossed over a good number of old logging roads along the way. Oh stick season is lovely we enjoyed so many wonderful views. I found a Mylar smiley face balloon. We descended nearly the same way through the wonderful open forest, it was a steep one but a fun one. We crossed the snowmobile trail and headed straight at 1,000 Acre Hill. The forest up to Thousand Acre Hill was all Beech Trees and wide open. Saw some bear tracks. Wow stick season is great. Views looking south where nice and we could see all the way to Killington's upper snow-covered ski trails. We descended a tad more to the west and nearer the bottom we found an old log road that traversed to the east and back to the snowmobile trail. We wore lots of orange but we didn't see or hear any hunters in the area. Wonderful day in the woods hitting two more New England 1,000 highest, ha ha. |
