Comments
Comments: We walked 1.3 miles on Carr Brook Rd. and headed into the woods, crossing a small stream and working our way westward through open woods then we hit a maze of whippets, brambles, and blowdowns. We climbed steeply up the east slope avoiding cliffs and ledges until we submitted the first of three false summits on the ridge. We made the HOL in 3 hours and found the jar labeled "Shoe Fly Trail Running", which told us this mountain is part of a trail running challenge. We also found a collapsed and rotten shelter filled with old beer cans and assorted trash, despoiling this beautiful mountain summit. With the wind and slow beginning to fall, we made it a short stay at the summit. We found a blazed trail, probably the "Soefly Trail" which we headed down off the mountain. We then veered off the marked trail and followed a herd path through the wintering grounds of moose and followed a well-established logging road that took us back to Carr Brook Rd. We wished we had followed this road to the summit, but that wasn't in the plan when we started.
