Comments
Comments: A fine morning in the Greens with HKRBTCH. We bare booted to maybe a quarter mile from the ridge, and wore them for maybe a quarter mile along the ridge before switching to snowshoes. They remained on until we returned to our sweet combustion engine vehicles. They are absolutely the most efficient way of traveling along the ridge, and did help smoothing things out on the way out. No real issues until getting up around the ridge, and the out and back to Ellen. We had two speeds, that of a nimble rabbit deftly weaving around lots of blowdowns and ice laden trees. Mike Tyson would be so proud at our float like a butterfly bobbin' and weavin'. Our other speed much resembled that of an elderly person who panics and hits the gas instead of the brakes and drives into a building. There where sections of hand to hand combat for sure and it was tedious and slow going - often hitting walls of icy trees. We deviated off the Long trail and ended up on the Ski slopes for a while and just utilized that for easier moving. It is groomed but the lift up right near the summit is absolutely caked in ice, no one is going that high for a while. Lots of soft rime ice on the trees made it magical.
