There is a tree down blocking the CCC Road just above the trailhead and another new one just above the turn to the Ridge Trail that will need to be cleared to be able to allow first responders to drive up the start of the Fire Tower trail once the snow melts. |

It was a nice snowy day to do the ridge loop clockwise which is recommended in winter. Used snowshoes the whole way except I did switch to trail crampons on the steep section between the Fire Warden's foundation and the Fire Tower where ice is below the snow in the usual places. I also used a winter bypass to avoid the crux. Snowshoes with cleats would work if careful. Microspikes probably not so well with loose and powdery snow right now. Over one foot of snow by early afternoon had fallen. |
