The trail is in the best shape this season so far. Nice solid snowy surface, some ice bulges higher up. Good for microspikes. Although the Waterbury trail stays packed from steady traffic, there was no sign of recent use going to White Rock Mtn. or north on the Skyline Trail, and no tracks up from the Middlesex Trail that I could see. Good visibility this a.m. to the Whites and ADK's. Some sort of atmospheric lensing effect made Killington & Pico aappear more pointed and prominent than normal.
Base temp -10F @ 8:35, summit +8F @ 9:40. Very light wind made it enjoyable to hang out and take in the views. Nice surprise running into Hank D. on my way down. |
