Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Main parking lot can be found at the end of Union Street in Manchester, but is often full on busier days. Higher-capacity parking can be found lower on Union Street, to the right when looking at the mountain; this is an overflow parking lot for Burr and Burton and should not be used during school hours. This lot has a link to the Blue Trail near the athletics field behind the academic building.

Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A few varied items witnessed on trail: There was a collapsible dinner bowl along the first steeper part of the trail, then a hat that was left on the bench near the spring halfway up, and finally a pair of underwear (??!) left on a rock further up the trail from the spring.

Comments
Comments: Decided to make a late afternoon venture up Equinox after stopping at local hiking outfitter store in Manchester Center. There were a few other cars in the lot when I got there after 4 PM, all hikers coming down the mountain at this point. After walking past the rest of the Preserve Trust trails, I rumbled up the first steep part of the trail and was pleasantly surprised at how far I managed to go before I had to take my first brief break. The steepness of this trail is not to be underestimated; it gains about 1750 feet in what I would estimate to be less than 1.5 miles. After that, the trail eases up a bit for the last 600 vertical feet. Definitely a challenge for southern Vermont. Very nice views from the summit building, and quiet too with all toll road-users gone for the day. Descent is a challenge too, with care needed for footing on some of the steeper slopes. Made it back to my car just after 7 PM.
