Long Trail out and back from Appalachian Gap to Ellen! This was a very enjoyable hike with mostly gentle grades--I think the hardest part was the first half mile or so. Of course there is mud, but you can rock hop. There are not many places to get water along the route, however. We didn't get down to Glen Ellen Lodge, but otherwise, every stream was just a trickle (except perhaps the first stream you cross from App Gap, like 5 minutes in). It wasn't too hot so luckily we didn't need extra water, but I was craving a cold drink and stream water would have done me just fine. |
