| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
FR55 is still open and in good condition. Single car width for most of its length with some pretty small pullover sections. Could be awkward passing another vehicle. Some small stretches of pot holes here and there but easily avoided. I parked directly across from trailhead where there is room for maybe 3 cars along side a camping area on the river (not sure if legal or not - had no signs - but it was very well used). Just before trailhead there is a small lot that would probably fit another 3-4 cars and just past trailhead was room for a few cars. No facilities. No fees. First one there around 7AM. Saw 2 other cars when I left in the alternate areas I mentioned. |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
Only one actual river crossing about 0.5 miles in. Water was pretty low. I was able to cross right where the trail is but had to get feet slightly wet. Looked like multiple options up and down stream. Several small brooks higher up were either dry or had very little water and were very easy. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trail was in very good shape overall. Early on there were a few tree tops that had fallen "sort of" into the trail but were easy to pass. Blazing was good, even in the official wilderness area. Most drainages were dry with a bit of thick but shallow mud. A few minor, easy stepovers along the way. These trees will probably require a saw to clear/cut and are not creating herd paths around them for now. |

| Comments: |
Was a breezy and cool start (roughly 35 deg F, very gusty winds of maybe 10mph-25mph). Trail is very easy to follow and is in great shape for this time of year. Most of the leaves are down and compacted. A few drainage ditches and hollows had fluffier piles hiding some thick, shallow mud but no issue if you're careful. The wilderness area of the trail is very easy to follow and well marked. No different than the trail really. The first 2 miles or so is easy to moderate grades on old forest roads and generally open woods. The last mile or so to the ridge gets more steadily moderate with some rougher sections here and there. The Long Trail had some mud but it was very firm and thick with the temperatures so it was a non issue. Saw a few small patches of ice on puddles and rocks but no need for traction. Very easy to avoid. I went a little way past the outlook (approx 0.5 miles) but turned around due to the lack of views. Despite the sharpness of the ridge the trees are very tall and thick so even peeks through the trees were rare. Saw some extremely fresh bear tracks in this stretch so be alert. |
