| Comments: |
The L.T. up to Taft Lodge was intermittently sticky this morning, some clumping on microspikes at times. The snow improved above the cabin, a little cooler I guess.
Met a descending snowshoer who turned back on the uppermost L.T. summit route, too steep and exposed. I went up Profanity, untracked recently but solid under some dust. Trail markers are mostly buried now, just a nice moderately steep snow climb up the left-slanting gully system. Snow was soft enough to kick steps, so I stayed in microspikes, though I had crampons. There were a few people backcountry skiing this side of the hill.
On the ridge, alternating drifts or wind scoured rock with minor icing. Summit temp 29F midday, light wind. Back down at the cabin I put away the spikes and barebooted down w/just poles, no clumping. Almost springlike in an alpine way. |
